3D Printers

The Construct’s print lab currently has three models of 3D printer available for student use: the FlashForge Creator Pro, the Prusa i3 MK2, and the Artillery Sidewinder X1. Our newest model, the Elegoo Mars 2, is currently undergoing testing and will be available for use soon.


FlashForge Creator Pro

The Flashforge Creator Pro is a general purpose FDM 3D printer. While we are actively working on phasing out this model, the Construct does still have three available for use, printing in PLA plastic. See below for specifications. Here’s a guide on how to use this printer.

FlashForge Creator Pro Specs:

  • Build Volume: 227 L x 148 W x 150 H mm (8.9 x 5.8 x 5.9 in)
  • Layer Resolution: 0.1 – 0.3 mm
  • X/Y Resolution: 0.01 mm
  • Nozzle Diameter: 0.4 mm

Prusa i3 MK2

The Prusa i3 is an open-source FDM 3D printer manufactured by Czech company Prusa Research. The Construct currently has six available for use, printing in PLA plastic. A lab manager will need to approve your print in order for you to be able to use one of these printers. See below for specifications. Here’s a guide on how to use this printer.

Prusa i3 MK2 Specs:

  • Build Volume: 250 L x 210 W x 200 H mm (9.8 x 8.3 x 8.0 in)
  • Layer Resolution: 0.05 – 0.3 mm
  • X/Y Resolution: 0.01 mm
  • Nozzle Diameter: 0.4 mm

Artillery Sidewinder X1

The Artillery Sidewinder is the Construct’s newest model of FDM 3D printer. While these printers are largely for use by classes, clubs, and MSD, we have recently begun to open them up for general use. The Construct currently has six available, printing in PLA plastic. We also have one configured to print in TPU, though this must be supplied by the student. See below for specifications. Expect a guide on how to use this printer soon.

Artillery Sidewinder X1 Specs:

  • Build Volume: 300 L x 300 W x 400 H mm (11.8 x 11.8 x 15.7 in)
  • Layer Resolution: 0.1 mm
  • X/Y Resolution: 0.01 mm
  • Nozzle Diameter: 0.4 mm

Elegoo Mars 2

The Elegoo Mars 2 is the Construct’s most recent SLA printer. As opposed to an FDM printer, which extrude plastic filament, these printers use high-powered lasers to harden liquid resin into a desired shape. The Elegoo Mars 2 in particular is an exemplar of its kind, boasting a suite of excellent features. See below for specifications. Expect a guide on how to use this printer soon.

  • Build Volume: 129 L x 80 W x 160 H mm (5.08 x 3.15 x 6.30 in)
  • Layer Resolution: 0.01-0.2 mm
