Material Choices for 3D Printing

  • PLA has a better surface finish, so PLA parts generally look better.
  • ABS is more flexible, PLA is more brittle.
  • ABS tends to warp more than PLA.
  • ABS is soluble in acetone, making it “weldable.”
  • PLA has less shrink, and tends to print more dimensionally accurate than ABS.

PLA is the more common material choice, so five of the six printers are dedicated to PLA.
